TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Upper Elementary Teacher,
Anchorage Montessori School 1998-2005
Anchorage Montessori
School. As an outgrowth of the positive
experience of working with children in the role
of scoutmaster, time was taken off from the
full time practice of law to teach at a private
school for several years. Private schools have
a high percentage of students with special needs,
as parents of such children often elect private
education. This resulted in learning about,
and meeting the needs of children with Tourette's
Syndrome, Attention Deficit Disorder, Asperger's
Syndrome, and various other learning disabilities.
During these years past scouting experience
was used to organize many "EdVentures,"
such as simulated space missions at the Challenger
Learning Center, and various multi-day field
trips to Peterson Bay (to learn about ocean
ecology), Eklutna (bike camping), and McGrath
for the Iditarod. Writing songs, skits, and
plays with the children were a highlight, one
of which won an honorable mention in the Anchorage
Daily News Creative Writing Contest.
